Williams took top honors in the Top Female Author awards program for her recent book, ‘A Collection Of Poems: A Journey Through Life’.

WILMINGTON, NC, June 18, 2020 /Neptune100/ — The murder of George Floyd has created yet another crisis for America. Unlike the Covid-19 pandemic, this one is self-made. This has caused a social upheaval in US society that can only be compared to what occurred in America in the 1960’s.

Cheryl Williams is an author, poet, musician and film maker who is a master of both poetry and prose. She took top honors in the Top Female Author awards program for her recent book, ‘A Collection Of Poems: A Journey Through Life’. She is also a black woman with asthma who managed to survive the coronavirus.

In response to the crisis surrounding the death of George Floyd, Cheryl recently posted a new video featuring her latest work, ‘A Country In Crisis’ on Youtube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNaWQxx6ti4&feature=youtu.be.

A Country In Crisis

A Country in crisis
A Country in pain
Since the crisis
Is a result of the pain
We must treat the pain
To alleviate the crisis
If we ignore the pain
The crisis will remain

People of good conscience are frustrated and we must express that. Williams still believes there is hope however. She recently had this to say:

“As a mother, watching Mr. Floyd’s last breath squeezed out of him, as he desperately pleaded for air, left my heart heavy and my spirit broken.

“As a nurse, not being able to administer life saving techniques to help save his life left me feeling helpless and angry.

“The pain of hatred and injustice have plagued the very existence of Black America for over 400 years.

“For years, we have engaged in expressions of protests and riots as a way to stand up against injustice and bring about change.

“Yet we keep coming back to the same place.

“George Floyd’s death brought us to a breaking point once again in our history.

“So many across America, of every creed and race have risen up to join the fight against racism, social injustice and its devastating effects on our communities.

“America is in crisis once again, because we fail to acknowledge the root cause of the ever recurring crisis.

“The effects of social injustice doesn’t only affect people of color. The destruction and devastation that usually follows, when communities stand up and demand justice, adversely affects us all.

“We must treat the pain to help eradicate the crisis. Ignoring the pain, will further escalate the crisis.

“Throughout history people have fought for freedom, equality and justice. People have fought for change.

“So many have argued that implementing peaceful measures is the most effective way to bring about change.

“I am an advocate for peaceful resolutions… but bringing about a change peacefully would require us to abandon our biases, respect each others differences, and stand up against social injustices.

“Until we acknowledge the fact that we are all a part of the human race, created in God’s own image and likeness. Genesis1:27

“Until we are able to empathize with our brothers and sisters of color, and their struggles for equality and justice, we will never address the pain and the ever present crisis will remain.

‘Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.’ – Dr. Martin Luther King

“Today, even though we are currently living through a chaotic moment in history. In the midst of it all there is hope.

“As we look through the endless crowds of protestors and see the faces of so many young Americans joining the movement for change, it is evident that there is hope for the future after all.”

She also recently posted a mesmerizing account of her coronavirus experience in a Youtube video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpN7nMt8gf0&t=91s.

Williams was named Top Female Author in the 2019 Top Female Author Awards in the poetry category. The win came as the result of her most recent book, ‘A Collection Of Poems: A Journey Through Life’. Williams was chosen from a field of hundreds of authors by a panel of judges.

Writing has helped Williams connect with her inner self, finding positive ways to cope with life’s struggles. She has been writing and singing for as long as she can remember.

Throughout her childhood she sang in both the church and school choir, and also enjoyed singing at talent shows and music festivals. As an adult she also participated in concerts, performing as a solo artist.

Music and writing are the tools that bring her fulfillment and healing. Her book, ‘A Collection Of Poems’, takes us through the power of the human mind, good or bad, and its impact on one’s direction and journey through life.

With the help of music, writing, and positive thinking, Williams found hope and purpose in life. Life isn’t fair. It is unpredictable, bad things happen to good people, and we never know what tomorrow holds. Cheryl wants her readers to realize that even when faced with insurmountable, hopeless situations, even when life seems dark and uncertain, we should never let go of hope and appreciate the beauty and blessings that life has to offer, making the most of every day, loving, living, laughing, and learning. Seasons change, and there is always a rainbow after the storms of life.

Cheryl Williams is a wife, mother, author, and nurse by profession, with a passion for the Arts.

Her love for poetry started at the tender age of five when she recited the poem “Grandfather Frog” for a school function. Six years later, her world was turned upside down after her mother suffered a massive stroke. During those uncertain times, music, writing, and poetry helped her cope.

As a teenager, whenever she wasn’t caring for her mother, Cheryl spent her free time writing and directing short plays as a form of entertainment for the children in her neighborhood.

She enjoyed singing in the church and school choir, while also performing publicly as a soloist in concerts and talent shows. As a result of her mother’s illness and her responsibility to help care for her, Cheryl was inspired to pursue nursing as a way to help others heal; the same way writing and music helped her find a path to healing. She resides in New York.
