Inspired by the architecture of L.A. – from the faded old glamour of legendary hangouts to the iconic new builds that have redefined the city – John Tierney pays tribute to an urban landscape he has long found fascinating.

LOS ANGELES, CA, July 02, 2019 /Neptune100/ — On June 27th, Maddox Gallery Los Angeles hosted an event in celebration of the opening of their latest art exhibition, “Postcards from L.A.”, by John Tierney. Influenced by the works of Edward Hopper, Peter Blake and David Hockney, “Postcards from L.A.” celebrates the modern American landscape as seen through the eyes of one of Britain’s most exceptional contemporary artists.

Working primarily in oils, Tierney creates stunning large-scale paintings that provide a strong sense of place, transporting viewers to the sun-kissed streets and iconic locations that have had a profound influence on his practice. Conveying each intricate detail he sees before him, he visits these various locales as an ‘outside’ observer – one fascinated by the differences between them and the urban and rural landscapes of Britain.

Curated by Megan Phillips, the exhibit runs from June 27th to July 15th.

The event was sponsored by Maddox Gallery and Guillotine Vodka.
