The partnership will provide academic tutoring, coding classes, and college access advisement to approximately 30 high school students in the Greater New Haven Area.

NEW HAVEN, CT, November 29, 2020 /Neptune100/ — Higher Heights Youth Empowerment Programs, Inc. (HHYEP) has teamed up with Dominate the Day to help educate high school students in the Greater New Haven Area. Dominate the Day is a nonprofit organization (501) (c)(3) created in 2017 to honor the life and legacy of Jordan Sebastian. Jordan was a kind, principled, extremely driven young man who worked incredibly hard. He earned a degree in English from The University of Rhode Island where played football on a full scholarship.

Upon graduation, Jordan was passionate about coaching, mentoring, and teaching kids. He cared deeply about equity of access regarding academic and athletic opportunities. In his honor, our mission is to help young people become the absolute best version of themselves – through character, relationships, academics, sports, and their positive impact on the world.

Dominate the Day has created access to quality academic tutoring, SAT prep, and various volunteer opportunities for kids to explore. They host a free football camp for 100 kids on the campus of (and in partnership with) The Hopkins School. (Jordan’s alma mater and then his employer before his passing.)

When asked about the partnership between programs, Liz, Founder of Dominate The Day stated, “By working with Higher Heights, our goal is twofold: to ensure that DTD kids are fully equipped to seize the opportunities before them, but also to ensure that they have access to those opportunities to being with.”

Since 2004, HHYEP has helped advance high school graduation and college enrollment rates amongst Greater New Haven students. With a 100% high school graduation rate and 95% college enrollment rate over 15 years; and 90% of students coming from low-income backgrounds and 85% of students being first-generational; through local and national partners Higher Heights is now positioned to expand its local reach to impact other local districts and the entire State of Connecticut.

At Higher Heights, our vision is for every under-represented student in the State of Connecticut to have full and equal access to post-secondary education. We provide underserved and underrepresented students with equitable access to college preparatory resources and services – with our support, they are empowered, encouraged, and equipped to go to college and to become leaders within the community.
