Firm Partners with Island Harvest Food Bank to Support Local Families in Need Each Thanksgiving

BETHPAGE, NY, November 24, 2020 /Neptune100/ — Continuing a tradition of supporting those who need it most in their community, Rosenberg & Gluck, L.L.P. donated $5,000 to the 12th annual Island Harvest Food Bank Turkey Drive. This donation will help to provide holiday meals and non-perishable goods to families and individuals throughout the area.

“We support the Island Harvest Food Bank’s mission to feed those who need help securing meals during the holidays and year-round, and consider this a privilege to be able to contribute,” said Matthew Bligh, a partner at Rosenberg & Gluck, L.L.P.

The annual Turkey Drive was held on Friday, November 20, 2020, in Bethpage. As always, the event gathered turkeys, non-perishable foods and other goods, and donations for families in need.

Unlike previous years, and because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, online giving opportunities are available in 2020. You can still participate by visiting the Island Harvest Food Bank website or social media pages and earmarking your donation for this event.

Other parts of the Turkey Drive also looked different in 2020. “In the past, the Turkey Drive has been something of a community event,” said Erin Hargis, a partner of the firm.

This year, everyone was asked to remain in their vehicles while volunteers visited each car to gather donations without face-to-face contact. Organizers hope next year’s event can return to its previous form and celebrate the community’s hard work and dedication to support those who need it most during these trying times.

The Island Harvest Food Bank has four Long Island locations—Bethpage, Hauppauge, Uniondale, and Calverton—as well as a wide range of additional services. This includes:

• An online search for nearby food pantries.
• A nutrition program for those with high blood pressure, diabetes, and other chronic disorders.
• Other nutritional services, thanks to partnerships with local hospitals.

Like other food banks nationwide, the Island Harvest Food Bank has seen an increase in need in the areas it serves during 2020. While the Turkey Drive primarily focuses on the holidays, they encourage donations of canned goods, non-perishable food items, shelf-stable milk, canned meats, cash, and supermarket gift cards year-round.

With support from Rosenberg & Gluck, L.L.P., local individuals and families, and many others in the community, this organization has been able to deliver more than 130 million pounds of food to those who need it on Long Island since it opened in 1992.
