How the Company is Using Sage X3 to Operate Leanly and Prepare for Industry 4.0
EDMONTON, AB, December 10, 2019 /Neptune100/ — Alberta-based Garnet Instruments Ltd is a leader in liquid management solutions. They recently partnered with The Answer Company to complete and fine tune their implementation of Sage X3, formerly Sage Enterprise Management. The solution is tailored to help them run the business to its highest potential. As a tech-forward company, Garnet makes sure to invest heavily in technology – in the solutions it offers, and in the solutions it uses in its own operations. Sage X3 is one such investment.
Previously, Garnet was using Sage 300, a comprehensive small- to mid-market solution, formerly known as Accpac. When their needs outgrew the solution, they made the move to Sage X3 with a different Sage reseller/partner. However, the initial implementation did not go the way they wanted. Formal processes were not established, they didn’t have the full holistic view of the business that they expected, and they were still relying on disparate spreadsheets to track production. They felt X3 wasn’t reaching its full potential and they began a search for a new partner.
This search brought them to The Answer Company, one of the top Sage Resellers for Sage X3 in Canada and recipient of several Sage awards. The Answer Company begins every new relationship with a thorough discovery, so they sat down with the Garnet team to find out what the pain points were, what they hoped to achieve with Sage X3, and what elements were important to them. The Garnet team was immediately impressed by The Answer Company team’s depth of knowledge of both the manufacturing industry and the capabilities of Sage X3. Together, they worked to re-implement Sage X3. Speaking about the project and partnership, Steve Young, CEO of Garnet Industries, said:
“It’s been transformational … We’ve gone from having very few formal processes to establishing standardized workflows that we can measure and monitor. It’s a shift from reactive to proactive and it’s giving us a powerful competitive edge.”
Previously, it was typical for Garnet to have 30 to 40 outstanding work orders at any given time. Now that number is closer to three or four. Now that they’ve simplified and optimized their workflows, they’ve been able to operate leanly.
Many tech-forward manufacturing companies are preparing for the onset of Industry 4.0 – a term used as a catch-all for a manufacturing industry where there is a focus on automation, data insights, cloud technology, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). The new Sage X3 implementation has helped Garnet pivot their organisation, to future-proof the company for Industry 4.0. Young said, “Through Industry 4.0 and the Internet of Things we are shifting our focus from making gauges to enabling our technologies to connect and communicate with other systems. Having a nimble and flexible manufacturing solution like Sage X3 allows us to make that shift without changing software.”
Of The Answer Company, he lauds them for their “bench strength”. He continued, “There’s no single point of failure. Everyone we work with is helpful, knowledgeable and responsive. With their collection of internal resources, we know we have a partner that can support us now and for the long term.”
