Dr. Nupur Ghoshal, M.D., Ph.D., of St. Louis, Missouri, is recognized by the International Association of Who’s Who as the 2020 Medical Professional of the Year.

ST. LOUIS, MO, July 01, 2020 /Neptune100/ — Dr. Ghoshal is a highly respected and acclaimed healthcare specialist and has dedicated an impressive 15 years to working and teaching in the medical field.

The distinguished career of Dr. Ghoshal began at Iowa State University, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Genetics. She then attended Northwestern University where she earned her Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology in 2001, before studying for her medical degree at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois and graduating in 2003.

From there, she went on to complete both her internship and her residency at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, and a two-year fellowship in geriatric neurology at Washington University School of Medicine both in St. Louis, MO. During this time, her work for dementia care and research received both the Kopolow Award and the Poletsky Award.

Upon completion of her fellowship, Dr. Ghoshal dedicated herself to research and clinical trials of Alzheimer’s disease, related memory disorders and prevention. She took an Instructor position in the Department of Neurology at Washington University School of Medicine in 2009, and by 2011 was appointed an Assistant Professor in the department, where she taught premedical and medical students, in addition to the university’s resident physicians. Dr. Ghoshal was committed to delivering a world class educational experience for her students, whilst also supporting the university’s mission to provide unparalleled instruction and research opportunities.

Demonstrating as much enthusiasm and commitment both inside and outside of the classroom, Dr. Ghoshal also practiced extensively both in hospital and outpatient environments. In fact, she was officially recognized as one of the Top 44 Providers with the Highest Patient Satisfaction by the Washington University School of Medicine in 2010. Most recently she was selected by her peers for inclusion in Best Doctors in America® from 2019 to 2020 and again from 2020 to 2021.

Dr. Ghoshal’s research is currently focused on the progranulin and tau proteins in frontotemporal dementia, having previously explored the mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative disorders with a particular emphasis on the tau protein in Alzheimer’s disease.

Dr. Ghoshal’s work has been presented at numerous medical conferences, including the American Academy of Neurology, Alzheimer’s Association International Conference, Society for Neuroscience, International Conference on Alzheimer’s Disease, International Conference on Frontotemporal Dementias, and the Gerontological Society of America. She is board-certified in Neurology, and is affiliated with AMA, AAN, AOA and SFN, as well as Sigma Xi, the renowned scientific research society.

As of 2018, Dr. Ghoshal is Associate Professor of Neurology and Psychiatry at the Washington University School of Medicine.

When not treating patients, teaching or researching, Dr. Ghoshal enjoys fine and performing arts, such as theatre, ballet and museums.
