People Are Encouraged to Share Stories, Effect Social Change, Build Community

NEW YORK, NY, July 26, 2020 /Neptune100/ — Take The Lead (https://www.taketheleadwomen.com), a nationally recognized non-profit dedicated to achieving gender equality, has introduced “Power to Change Stories.” This initiative is devoted to highlighting personal stories with one goal: to create change where people work and live. It will offer a welcoming arena for people sharing their stories of success and challenge in order to build community and maintain an archive of resources for inspiration, direction and transformation. The project will be headed by Michele Weldon, Take The Lead’s editorial director and the author of five top-selling non-fiction books.

“Familiarity with your own story can help you develop the future of your choice,” says Gloria Feldt, Take The Lead’s co-founder and president. “That’s one reason we’re inviting people to share their stories now. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic and the calls to action for racial injustice, stories are especially important because they have power to drive change in society and in the workplace and cultivate a sense of community.”

The project is also indicative of Take The Lead’s mission. “We have always been champions of having diverse voices heard, and this is another opportunity to have even more people contribute to the conversations of the day,” notes Weldon.

Criteria for Submission
Take The Lead “Power to Change Stories” welcomes original stories of 300 words or less (plus optional photos and video). Content can be submitted at https://www.taketheleadwomen.com/stories. Following submission, writers will receive a free chapter from Weldon’s award-winning book Writing To Save Your Life. Selected stories will be published in Take The Lead’s blog and weekly newsletter. In addition, they will be considered for an upcoming e-book.

Stories need to focus on experiences, strategies, insights and solutions, reflecting one or more of the following requested themes:

• A moment when you experienced or witnessed an example of inequity and you spoke up and took action.
• How you spearheaded an action to make a change in your workplace or community.
• Ways you are shifting your own attitudes and behaviors in order to make a direct impact for change.
• How practices in your field/discipline/workplace make you feel as well as their impact on you and how you will make a plan for changes.
• An individual whom you believe is demonstrating their power to make change and how they inspire you.

“We know these stories will move, motivate, inspire and inform,” says Weldon. “I’m looking forward to reading and sharing them with the widest possible audience.”
