SEOUL, KOREA, October 23, 2019 /Neptune100/ — Insignary, a leader in binary fingerprint software composition analysis tools, extends Clarity’s capabilities with the rollout of new features. This new release includes major upgrades and improvements that security executives, managers and analysts alike will find useful in managing open source software (OSS) risks.

Insignary Clarity™ is a software composition analysis (SCA) tool that leverages its unique patented fingerprint-matching technology to identify OSS vulnerabilities and license compliance issues. Clarity focused on scanning compiled binary files in its previous versions, but the new release is now able to scan software packages based on script languages.

“Today, software is written and built using many different languages. For instance, a web application may have a JavaScript frontend with a Java backend, which may access native libraries written in C / C++,” said Tae-Jin (TJ) Kang, CEO of Insignary, Inc. “Therefore, to get comprehensive scan results, it is necessary to analyze not only compiled binary files but also script files contained in software packages.”

New features include:

• Script language support – Script language is supported through the same fingerprint technology Insignary uses for binary analysis. Clarity can now scan JavaScript files with support for many more script languages, such as Python, etc., coming soon.

• Detection scope control – This feature allows for the control of Clarity’s detection scope. In its previous version, Clarity detected and reported all open source components, including embedded open source components like snippets and statically linked codes, etc. However, as not all users or use cases require this deep level of detection and reporting, the detection scope can be now adjusted to exclude deep or transitive dependency detection results.

• Multi-factor detection – In addition to Clarity’s unique patented ‘deep fingerprint’ (unique identifier) matching, Insignary now performs hash comparisons to further improve Clarity’s overall detection capability.

This past March, Insignary had announced major updates to Clarity that provide users an easy-to-navigate interface with improved scanning speed and accuracy. With Clarity, enterprises can determine the most critical OSS security risks and license compliance issues and allocate their DevOps and security resources to effectively address them.
