In The Selfie Project, Dr. Holstein, a Positive Psychologist/filmmaker and originator of a unique Selfie Film concept, combines kids, experts, podcasting, selfies and Positive Psychology to create a groundbreaking new resource for kids and parents

WILMINGTON, NC, August 16, 2019 /Neptune100/ — What do you get when you combine kids, experts, podcasting, selfies and Positive Psychology? The answer is The Selfie Project, produced by Dr. Barbara Becker Holstein. Dr. Holstein hopes to bring parents, teachers, librarians, grandparents and media together to accomplish one goal: Change in the lives of young people who suffer from anxiety and a growing sense of hopelessness and despair.

The Selfie Project feature real kids with real problems who address real issues, using their preferred means of communication – selfies and selfie films. Everything is unrehearsed and unscripted.

The Selfie Project is built on two key premises: 1.) Selfies are a legitimate form of film making that results in effective communication and, 2.) Selfie film making is a tool for private expression, but can also serve to create public discussion of important issues.

These issues include, but are not limited to, bullying, suicides, social media pressures, lockdowns, school shootings, love and much more. Guided by experts, young people get a chance to speak out in their own way, whether that way is to rant, vent, discuss or bare their souls.

“These are real kids with real problems,” Dr Holstein stated. “My hope is to give them a real voice.”

Dr. Holstein wraps Positive Psychology concepts in forms of media that young people find engaging, relatable and inspiring. These include:

Award winning books (perfect for school libraries)
The Selfie Project

Award winning films and selfie films

Dedicated websites

Stage plays

A library of articles

Ted-style talks

“I am making my latest film ‘Lock Down’ available to parents and educators,” Dr. Holstein stated. “We have no time to waste in dealing with the safety of our kids, physically and emotionally. I hope ‘Lock Down’ will help generate the type of compassionate concern and connection that moves us as a society to thoughtful and timely solutions.”

“I have been concerned about children’s mental health for my entire career, spanning teaching elementary school, training teachers, being a school psychologist, being and still am a clinician in private practice. Now I am going public, sharing my concerns. Briefly, ‘The Selfie Project’ brings to the public both dramatic films and documentaries that give us a new window by which to understand the complex problems facing kids today. The Enchanted Self Podcasts discuss with experts and kids the complex anxiety problems facing our youngsters today.”

The new Selfie Project Channel is available on Youtube at
