Helping to end hunger in Knoxville and beyond

KNOXVILLE, TN, October 02, 2019 /Neptune100/ — The Alsco Knoxville branch of Alsco, Inc., the premier linen and uniform services company, recently donated to the Scarecrow Foundation. The Scarecrow Foundation started in 2010 with the mission of helping to end hunger in Knoxville as well as in the United States.

“The vast majority of nonprofits supporting the hunger issue do a great job, but many do not have the organizational infrastructure when it comes to marketing their cause,” said Harry Ward, chairman of the board of the Scarecrow Foundation. “The Scarecrow Foundation acts like a marketing arm for food pantries and hunger organizations to further advance their ministries and good works. We are grateful for the continued support we receive from local organizations like Alsco Knoxville.”

On Tuesday, September 17, Alsco Knoxville continued its support of the Scarecrow Foundation for the 12th consecutive year and participated in the 15th Annual Scarecrow Foundation’s Gator Hator Golf Tournament with all the proceeds going to the Love Kitchen. The Love Kitchen provides meals, clothing and emergency food packages to homebound, homeless and unemployed people of all races and backgrounds.

The Scarecrow Foundation’s mission is to support agencies on the front lines of battling to end hunger in the United States. It does so through awareness campaigns such as XHunger and the L.U.V.S. Program (Locate a food pantry, Understand its purpose, Volunteer and Support it!) as well as by developing educational programs locally through the Knox County School system, the University of Tennessee and Pellissippi Community College. There are now six functioning “Scarecrow Clubs,” where high school and college students attain service hours by supporting local food pantries and thereby helping end hunger in the United States.

“For me, it simply comes down to the fact that no one in America should ever go to bed hungry,” said Tony Iasiello, general manager of Alsco Knoxville. “I am very grateful to continue being involved with such an impactful and inspirational organization as the Scarecrow Foundation. We are excited that we are able to donate to this mission in an effort to end hunger in America.”
