Stay-At-Home Orders Drive Demand

SAN DIEGO, CA, June 16, 2020 /Neptune100/ — Market analyst firm DFC Intelligence has issued its latest forecast for spending on gamer PC hardware. The firm forecasts that in 2024 consumers worldwide will spend $70 billion for PC game hardware, up from $49 billion in 2019.

The forecasts look at custom hardware specifically designed to play PC games. This includes pre-designed performance desktop and laptop systems as well as enthusiast systems custom built by users.

“Consumers are really seeing the value in high-end PC game systems,” said DFC lead analyst David Cole. “2019 was a strong year for sales and we have actually raised our forecasts.”

The spread of COVID-19 has caused some supply issues but according to Cole is serving to increase demand. “Consumers staying at home realize the value a high-end PC system can provide. Difficult economic times are the only thing potentially slowing sales.”

In addition to stay-at-home orders, esports has been a major driver of PC hardware. “Like any sport or activity, having the right equipment is crucial to success. Consumers spend more on the hardware to play games than they do on the actual games,” said Cole.

Overall DFC Intelligence estimates globally 1.5 billion consumers play PC games, but only a small fraction currently spend money on high-end hardware.
