NEW YORK, NY, August 27, 2019 /Neptune100/ — At the beginning of a new homecoming season, Occasion Brands, LLC (OB), releases this 2019 issue of Pulse of Homecoming with pre-season predictions of consumer purchasing trends for homecoming 2019 dresses. Fashion industry expectations reveal a continuation of many popular 2018 homecoming dress trends. The 2018 dress trends that are expected to return for the 2019 season are affordable short a-line styles in solid colors, such as burgundy red, navy blue, and mauve pink. New trends anticipated for homecoming 2019 dresses include dresses in the colors rose gold pink and yellow, as well as with shimmering details, such as glitter and sequins. It appears that homecoming fashion has at least a two year cycle of popularity.
Solid Colors to Prevail: Burgundy, Navy, Rose Gold, and Yellow
In 2018, popular homecoming dress colors included navy blue, mauve pink, burgundy red, and black. These shades made up 81% of all 2018 online homecoming dress sales. Going into the 2019 homecoming season, designers anticipate the return of burgundy red and navy blue, as well as mauve pink, but in more of a rose gold hue. The new color expected to be popular for 2019 homecoming dresses is yellow.
Short A-Line Dresses with V-Necklines Anticipated for 2019 Homecoming
For the 2019 homecoming season, industry predictions show a continued preference for short, simple a-line dresses with v-necklines. For the 2018 homecoming season, top-selling styles also featured short a-line designs, v-necklines, and a stand-out feature, such as embellished bodices or statement back designs (illusion back, lace back, strappy back), finishing the look. Going into this 2019 season, stand-out features, like embellished bodices and statement backs, on otherwise simple designs are also expected to prevail again. New to the upcoming 2019 season is an increase in homecoming dresses with glitter or allover sequins, and many styles featuring pockets.
Affordable Homecoming Dresses Under $150 Predicted
Affordability is at the forefront of consumer’s minds in 2019. The industry predicts most consumers will spend between $99 and $150 on a homecoming dress this year. Affordability was a major factor in 2018 homecoming dress purchases too, as 80% of all online homecoming dress purchases were under $150 that year. Furthermore, 56% of total sales in 2018 represented dress purchases under $100, and 47% fell between $50 and $99. Industry predictions show a continuation of affordable styles, and soon consumer purchasing trends for the 2019 homecoming season will reveal the accuracy of these color, style, and price expectations.
The data for these early season homecoming trends represents sales between July 15th and August 15, 2019. The 2018 data is from August 15th to October 15th. All data is across the United States by Occasion Brands, LLC, a leading national online dress retailer.
